A Last Request

Thundershatner's picture

A prisoner in a desert hold has one last request....not a meal, but song. Two street musicians outside his cell in the alleyway are willing to pay him the favor of his last request. The guards permit this as the prisoner keeps his balance while a noose is placed over his head. He listens to this song through the bars on his window and as the end nears, tears of happiness roll down his face.

I cried myself to sleep....

This was very sad. I hope that the prisoner was innocent or that his crimes were that of a non felony based nature. That would make it even more thought provoking and enduring. However, if the prisoner perpetrated a crime against humanity, I would have hoped the street musicians would have stopped short halfway into the piece. Please elaborate, as I am on the fence about my feelings on this one. Musically this is a nice piece of work. I found the dynamic pianissimo of the rhythm very appropriate. A more serious review to come but at this moment I am weighing my souls voice on the economics of the death penalty and its charge against morality.
